Probable GRAY FLYCATCHER -Cove Is. 10/13
Sat, Oct 14, 2017 12:20 PM
10/13. An eBird checklist from Cove Is. Park in Stamford by Lea Shaw reported a late Least Flycatcher. This morning, Greg Hanisek and I viewed subsequently attached photos that to us look like one of the western Empidonax species , GRAY FLYCATCHER. Louis Bevier, an expert birder from Maine (and formerly CT) just saw the pix and he agrees with that ID.

Boothe Park Hawks 10/10
Sun, Oct 11, 2009 12:01 AM
soar higher later in the afternoon once the sun finally emerged. There were about 7 hours of observations, and half of that time was me alone. Charlie Barnard and Frank Mantlik observed as well. We had 48 species just at the site (without walking around the park). While our totals continue to be good, I can only imagine how many more raptors we'd get with the number of people that help out at somewhere like Lighthouse! As a side note, the radar is showing very heavy migration across the region right now - get out there early tomorrow. There will be many new birds around. Raptor migrants: 8 Turkey Vulture 28 Osprey 1 Bald Eagle 3 Northern Harrier 66 Sharp-shinned Hawk 14 Cooper's Hawk 1 NORTHERN GOSHAWK (adult) 4 Red-shouldered Hawk 2 Broad-winged Hawk 2 Red-tailed Hawk 50 American Kestrel 5 Merlin 2 Peregrine Falcon 1 Accipiter 3 Buteo 2 Falcon 5 Raptor TOTAL - 197 Other migrants: 50 Canada Goose 15 Mallard 2 Great Blue Heron 2 Double-crested Cormorant 2 Tree Swallow -- Scott Kruitbosch Connecticut Audubon Society Stratford, CT kbosch@gmail.com

The lagoons were just visited by a Peregrine which flushed most of the birds including the blackbird. I will be here for another half hour and will post if it returns. Sent from my BlackBerry 10 smartphone on the Rogers network.
