Wed, May 5, 2010 5:21 PM
All you boaters will be happy to learn that according to today's Mobile Press Register, we are NOT going to get the oil spill on the southern coasts that has been predicted!!!

Re: T&T: PC-readable charts for Bimini?
Mon, May 11, 2015 5:21 PM
Jeppesen C-map bought the explorer charts rights for Bahamas and Garmin bought some from Jeppesen but not all of them hence not complete coverages. Not sure about Navionics mobile app that now plays other chart plotters or if SEAiq can use the C-map explorer charts.

HP 5870B Electrolytic Cap List
Mon, Jul 8, 2013 3:08 AM
To all my fellow list heretics who believe in change before failure,   I have put together a list of AFAIK, all the electrolytics from the 5370B service manual, their location, and possible Nicicon 105 C rated capacitors for replacement.

TWL: Re: all chain rode
Tue, Jul 29, 2003 2:20 AM
We have one all chain and one rode with 15' of chain. We have spare anchors all over the place, but a plow and a SuperMax are currently on the bow. The instructions that came with the SuperMax said it does not need chain and, in fact, they didn't recommend it.

Re: T&T: Why carry paper charts?

My chartplotter also hated certain areas; it would always die off of Port Townsend and a certain area in the Broughtons, as well as once displaying all currents relative to today's date in 1990. Various patches over the years fixed all of that, but what else was introduced?

[TWGL] Inverters
Thu, Mar 21, 2002 12:21 AM
All are separate, so if the inverter or batteries die, I can still run everything off the genset and also run the boat. My next plan (if I can figure out how to do it) is to install a larger alternator on one engine so I can run the inverter, and also charge the inverter's batteries while the engine is running.

I had sent my message directly to you rather than to the list because I thought that this thread on the list needed to be allowed to die a natural death. I still feel that way. I think there were errors on both sides, but what is done is done, so let's all now move on to other things.

TWL: Re: wet balsa coring in transom and hull
Tue, Aug 19, 2003 10:13 PM
Some folks use a drill with a short piece of coat hanger--die grinder or Dremel tool. I would find out if the core is saturated in other places also check all thru hull fittings. If the rest of the core is fine, and there is no blistering or delamination, then properly seal all hull holes and replace the fittings.

Perkins 6.354 oil filter
Fri, Jul 1, 2005 10:20 AM
All the name brands-- Die Hard, Interstate, etc., etc., etc. come from these two manufacturers. There are more than two filter manufacturers, but it's the same idea. The same is true for fuel pumps. The trick there is to specify the one for the cheapest car - e.g. Bosch used to make the same pump for VW, BMW and Ferrari.
