Re Terns

And then there is the people problem......remember in as few as 15 minutes a newly hatched Tern can die from exposure to heat or cold if adults are kept off the nest by disturbance. Plankton feeders that should be on their way south long before this but for some reason this year - maybe warm water in the Sound - they are still here but the plankton grows scarce in cold water and the bunker die off. They have also died from lack of oxygen in the water.

Re: HP53131 Power Supply shortened

Usually when they die, they take a lot of parts out in the process. The good news is that the PSU in the 53181 is the same as the 131 PSU. Since 181’s tend to sell for “not much” they are a fine parts donor ….

Re: Frequency Standard - Where Can I Get One.

They do die of fairly normal random stuff as well. Like just about everything designed in the last 30 years, schematics and field repair manuals simply don’t exist. What to do: Start looking for shorted caps. If voltages are ok then move on to things like the frequency of the local oscillator. You can get surplus Rb’s built into functioning devices.

Re: needed some more big ball bearings, but a question for someone whose done this and lubed them.

He did die right where he was standing but it took too long, not a humane kill. Lesson learned. And today I read some warnings during my net searching about it getting into the cracks and crannies in printed stuff and delaminating it gradually. Both that and the finely milled graphites carry the same warnings, saying don't use.

Re: Generating multiple related signals

Gerard, except that those transceivers that do the gigabit serial links  have their own, fenced off circuitry and isolated regions  on the die. They also have their own fenced off, isolated power supplies and ground regions. And, they require clocks with < a few hundred pS of jitter for their PLL references  to work.
