Although the weather was not hospitable, all were lucky to see a relatively good day for bird migration. Weather: I must say that the last two days have been "Go figure" days. Although similar in appearance; yesterday, the rain was miles away and we could not buy a bird.

Otherwise, all quiet on the avian front. Predictions: Although the barometer will rise over 30” tomorrow, the day will resemble today with lots of cloud cover. Winds will be from the SW peaking around 9 mph in the mid-afternoon before easing slightly. Saturday might be a better day with sunshine for a change, although the winds will be from the W.

The west wind stayed around 20 kph all day. Luckily, we were relatively sheltered and could stay warm. The temperature rose from 5C to 7C. The barometer dropped slightly. Raptor Observations: Our second largest day this November! With 34 raptors from 6 different species, it was significantly more exciting than most days have been.

Given that they normally are very good at rejecting all sorts of crud and ground loops, it was somewhat odd to see. All counting is done by volunteers. Not all members are counters nor does a counter have to be a member. Typically one person is the designated counter for each day but other observers present assist with the spotting and identification. Counting is done from a steel observation tower with a wooden floor.

From the top of my head I cannot say what is the problem, but it may be in the FFT computation more than in the data stream. Have you tried to visualize the data in the time domain? If the spurious peaks you see in the spectra are really there the signal distortion should be easy to identify. Cheers, Daniele
