The institutional services may have improved, but old habits die hard. > It is a rare company indeed where the sysadmins are told that they > are to do what the engineers request, without fighting, whining, or > being passive aggressive about it. The 9462 is a very good Oven as I said before, but not a lot of inside information for it is to be found :^) Having had a few 9442-12s die on me I did trace out the circuit of those, but that is the only kind, so far. Touch wood. Dan ac6ao / g3ncr

HP 5870B Electrolytic Cap List

The second one had the B channel die.  I just bought two others on ebay for parts/not working.  One also has the B channel out but the last and highest priced unit just needed the rear switch set to internal osc and now it works fine.   My estimate cost from the Mouser catalog is less than $20 per unit.  For me, cheap insurance.

Re: [time-nuts] RS 232

Then along came the IBM-PC, with its comport card that had both 20ma current loop, and RS232 implemented using single transistor circuits, and the die was cast. The MAX232 also implemented the standard incorrectly by leaving out the hysteresis and going with a TTL threshold.

Unfortunately there are a lot of different ways these beasts can die. The repair guys who should know always claimed that bulb issues were < 30% of the issues they saw. That was on an earlier generation of Rb’s but I suspect it applies. None of the ones I had arrive DOA were bulb problems.

If you leave them in the charger "forever" they die "a lot sooner than forever". When used in standby applications you can only use 70-80% of their capacity because you have to stay out of the "overcharge" domain.
