Lots of power needed to overcome the waves as we have to angle up and down a bit when the waves are topping due to adverse currents. A few have been well over 15' and steep with sloppy tops. We have had to secure a few things in the saloon that heretofore have been happy where they are...bummer.

Holiday Beach Hawk Watch (26 Oct 2024) 3890 Raptors
Sun, Oct 27, 2024 12:44 AM
We recorded 21 Golden Eagles today, which is in the top ten counts of HBMO's 50 years of data. These birds were almost all immatures (one adult type), and many gave us amazing views through our scopes. At one point we even had 5 in view at once! We also counted 8 Rough-legged Hawks, including 1 beautiful dark morph bird (my favourite Ontario hawk).

The barometer did top out at 30.3 inches and the sky, almost all blue at the start of the day, became sparsely populated with seemingly unmotivated cumulus clouds of minor stature. The temperatures were knocking on seventies door but could not quite break that barrier; coupled with the NE winds, it was T-shirt plus one, if you are keeping track of layers.

[Ontbirds]Varied Thrush--Nethercott residence--Rodney
Thu, Dec 30, 2004 12:45 PM
It is a adult Male and does not frequent the feeder very often if at all. The morning hours have been the best times to see it. It frequents the tops of large deciduous trees, mainly sugar maples which are found to the west and north of the Nethercott residence.
