Re: [time-nuts] A look inside the DS3231
Sat, Jul 29, 2017 6:32 PM
The DS3231 has on-board temperature monitoring to correct the crystal frequency: is this something where they would have bothered putting a separate sensor next to the crystal itself, or are the die and the crystal are close enough and in the same package that they could use an on-die sensor like a diode and call that "good enough"? Cheers!

State response to Rough Grouse
Fri, Mar 8, 2013 9:30 PM
Well this says to me - the State has determined that hunters have as much right to take that Grouse as a natural predator does, its going to die one way or the other anyway! This is our States answer to the dwindling population numbers of Grouse here in our State at present. I for one could not believe what I heard. I hope you do not as well.

Except, the sides are tapered on most die cast boxes. I like the rectangular boxes made from an extrusion, with covers. That way, the sides are at right angles to each other. COMPAC is one brand.

TWL: Propeller query
Fri, Jun 9, 2000 2:42 PM
My boat was overpropped - black smoke and about 100 revs off top when fully loaded. So, I invested in a pair of shiny new wheels from a major prop manufacturer. The props are now on, and guess what - I'm now150 revs off top and you can see my smoke cloud miles off! Now the details - original props were four bladed 24x24 bronze uncupped.

Some have said that the chip¹s die markings indicate that it¹s actually a Hammerhead I chip, but one analyst involved in the teardown

Even if that were not the case I think that in all but exceptional circumstances it is better to let nature take its course however sad that may seem (note that it is normal for most young birds to die in their first year). That said I'm probably just a cold hearted cynic (ok, the " probably" is misleading).
