From Nick Bonomo with Carolyn Sedgwick: 06/26/12 - Madison, Hammonasset State Park -- evening; the highlight was one of those oddball Tricolored-like Herons in the nature center marsh. We also had 4 Little Blue Herons (3 adults and one pied immature), 2 Roseate Tern foraging offshore, Marsh Wren, and an Orchard Oriole.

The bias function was all of a sudden known and the bias grew for some noises as you went for 1000 samples, 10000 samples etc. to infinity... so 2-sample variance was indeed more useful. That's how it was coined as Allan's variance by fellow researchers. He also looked at the bias function for measurements with dead-time, another obsticle of its day.

process improvement
Mon, Nov 6, 2017 5:19 PM
Hi Guys, One thing that seems like an easy improvement to the USRP fpga build process would be to check that all the source files are present prior to launching a 2 hour process. If you are missing an RFNOC OOT module, then it isn't until after the build-ip step is finished that you find out that your module is not there.

Oscilloquartz OSA-4350 GPSDO
Sun, Dec 31, 2017 7:15 PM
I disassembled the unit and found that +5V is shorted to ground on the top board. No shorted tantalum caps or obvious failed parts. I am beginning to think it may be power/ground planes are shorted on the four layer board (all boards are four layer)... probably wasted $20 on a DC-DC. It's not going to be easy tracking down the short.

Re: [time-nuts] GPS jamming susceptibility

I suppose you can, there's probably millions of them out there in all manner of radios. Why not get an eval board for one of the plethora of MMIC PLLs out there that has VCO, dividers, etc. all on one die. Heck, NS has a whole webbench application that will basically design the thing for you. On a related note... What about a GPS signal simulator..
