do UHD binaries support network mode

trying to interface with a E310 USRP and while I was able to successfully find the device using uhd_find_devices and uhd_usrp_probe when I built UHD from source on a virtual machine the same commands seem to find nothing when run from a vm that installed from http://files.ettus.com/binaries/uhd/uhd_003.008.005-release/. is this because the UHD binaries do not support
