Re: T&T: "Poly" rope confusion
Fri, Mar 28, 2008 9:59 PM
"Nylon", which is actually now a generic name (first coined by duPont) for an entire family of fibers with somewhat different characteristics, is technically a "polyamide." So all the line you've discussed is "poly" of one sort or another, which makes sense, since virtually all man-made petrochemical fibers are made from polymers. FWIW.

Re: TWL: Pressure Cooker (What Kind)
Fri, Dec 17, 1999 10:05 PM
Some cookers' walls curve inwards near the top to provide the seal with the lid. These are suitable for anything but breadmaking (you can't get the finished loaf out of the pot because of the inward curving wall). So buy a pressure cooker with straight walls only - someday you'll want to make homemade bread. George

Re: T&T: Genset annoyances

you'dl have to be really on top of them to smell In the PNW, where shore power is often iffy (15 amps 100 feet away is not uncommon) I have now twice experienced boats moored ahead of us on the dock running their gensets so they can watch the big screen TV. In one case the genset outlet was less than 20 feet from our aft cabin door, and directly upwind.
