Try specifying 'float' as the host type. The default host type for
rx_samples_to_file is short, which does not go through SSE converters
when 8-bit wire samples are used. The 8-bit to float conversion does
use SSE.

The default host type for benchmark_rate is float compared short for
rx_samples_to_file, which may account for the discrepancy.
