To give this some resolution. This is apparently a MSVC 2008 bug that is
exposed by boost 1.49. At least that is at least what the boost guys are
saying: https://svn.boost.org/trac/boost/ticket/6638

The best solution is probably to not use the combination of MSVC2008 and
boost 1.49
