Well, this is a new one. I wouldnt expect the ipaddress to contain non
ascii characters.

Its also possible to adNode.ipMask.decode('ascii', errors='ignore'),
which unfortunately is newer versions of python only.

Looks like we need our own decode to ascii + ignore for portability...
